Hillside High School's Student Council (@hillsidestuco), under the guidance of advisor Noreen Deutsch, has been awarded the National Gold Council of Excellence Award (for a second year, consecutively) by the National Association of Student Councils (NASC) @natstuco; recognizing its students' exceptional leadership, service, and community engagement! ! Hillside High School's student council stood out among thousands nationwide for their innovative approach to community, school culture, and education. They employ the help of the Union County Board of Elections to create a meaningful voting experience for the students of Hillside High School as they elect their Student Council Officers. This is a unique method of engaging students in civics. A student council must meet a variety of criteria to earn the National [Gold] Council of Excellence Award. In addition to basic requirements such as a written constitution, regular meetings and a democratic election process, the councils must have demonstrated successful sponsorship and participation in activities such as leadership development and service to the school and community!
